He prefers students to be fully engaged in class and not take notes during lecture. Therefore, he posts thorough lecture and case discussion summaries after each class. I did find a few cases to be boring (i.e. Crown, Cork, and Seal). But to be fair, throughout my business school experience I didn’t find the cases that dealt with commodities to be very interesting. The class has two lectures a week, one being a case discussion and the other a theory introduction session. Some students argued that many of the learnings of the class could be gained with simple common sense. Personally, I came from a software engineering background where it was easy to get immersed in day-to-day responsibilities. Business strategy helped me realize how important it is to step back at times and analyze the grand scheme of things. |
