Empirical Methods in Strategy
Class Overview - Empirical Methods in Strategy (469)[edit
This class basically throws everything you learned in DECS 434 out the window. Remember that diagram that tells you how to build a regression model? The sooner you forget it, the better. And all those examples you worked in class where you could see things like curvature and best regression fit by simply eyeballing graphs? More power to you if you ever run into something like that in the real worldmost of the time youll just be seeing clouds of data. Empirical Methods in Strategy teaches statistical analysis in the context of strategy. It shows you how to take huge amounts of data and not only make sense out of it, but how to use it to recommend appropriate business decisions. For example, the first project in the Spring 2008 class had us make recommendations on pricing and promotions for a given yogurt brand. This class has one of the highest workloads at Kellogg, but is directly applicable to a number of career paths. The statistical tool used for this class is STATA.
