Good (4)
Professor: David Dranove
Teaching Method: Lectures, Simulations
Dranove is probably one of the top 5 strategy professors at Kellogg. He holds students to extremely high standards them and pushes them hard. You'll have to show up to class prepared because he cold calls frequently. The main takeaway from the class is the feeling that you can go into the real world and confidently analyze data and make relevant strategy decisions based off of it. Given that many companies expect MBAs to possess this type of skill, this class can definitely come in handy. This is one of the few classes (if not the only one) that incorporates intense data mining into the curriculum. The downsides to the course include that it only is offered spring quarter. Be prepared to work during a few beautiful Chicago nights while your friends are enjoying themselves. Also, Dranove makes you read two academic papers during the term: personally, I thought they were completely worthless.
