Professor: Alp Atakan
Teaching Method: Lectures, Cases, Simulations
Professor Atakan did a great job of presenting microeconomics concepts in a clear and easy to understand manner. His powerpoint are very thorough—if you take his class, there’s no need to buy the textbook. Just get the coursepack and you’ll be fine. I enjoyed the computer simulations he conducted in class to simulate concepts such as supply and demand. For example, in one simulation, one half of the class is placed in the “sellers” group and the other half in the “buyers” group. Based on the buying and selling tolerances of the two groups, the class gets to see the equilibrium point being reached first-hand--very cool. On a negative point, the cases were boring as hell for me. They were pretty much all commodity-based (i.e. aluminum smelters). But based on the course objective, I think this class was well executed overall.
