 Finance Overview[edit
Kellogg differs from other business schools in that it only requires one Finance class (Finance I), as part of its core curriculum. However, Finance is one of the most popular majors selected by students. Finance classes tend to be filled by two types of students:

1. Students who want to pursue a career in finance (i.e. corporate finance, investment banking), and want to gain a deep understanding of the material.

2. Students who want a more high-level general managers perspective of the material in order to prepare themselves for their future careers (i.e. brand management, management consulting).

When choosing groups for finance classes, it helps to know the interests of your classmates. For example, a student getting ready for a banking internship may want to spend endless hours dissecting a case as preparation for their job. He/she may feel frustrated if other group members don’t exhibit the same level of involvement.

The faculty of Kellogg also stresses the importance of going outside your comfort zone when tackling finance cases in groups. The students who had pre-MBA investment banking could probably construct the financial model for the case the fastest, while the liberal arts whizzes would be more adept at doing the strategy write-up. It’s important to realize that the goal of finance classes is to learn rather than simply finish group projects in the most efficient manner possible.
